GARNETT — The First District Race for the Anderson County Commission has three candidates. Incumbent Democratic Commissioner Dean Register of Greeley has two challengers this year. One is former hospital administrator Jim Johnson of Barnett, who is a Republican. Beauty shop operator Pam Ahring of Kincaid is running for the county commission as an independent. The Anderson County Review talked to all three candidates. Register said he’s happy to run on his record and cites his experience as a three-term commissioner. His priorities — upgrading the county’s fire departments and repairing county roads. Johnson said his business and management experience will be an asset to the county. He said his top priorities are better planning for the road program and other county services, and economic development. Ahring said the county commissioners need to be more responsive to citizens. Her priorities are the county ambulance service and more training programs for county employees.
