OTTAWA — Ransom Memorial Hospital is gearing up to go through its three-year accreditation through the Joint Commission, formerly the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. Less than 24 percent of Kansas hospitals seek accreditation through the Joint Commission, said hospital CEO Larry Felix. The other hospitals are certified by Medicare, he said. However, the survey and standards are different, and meeting Joint Commission guidelines are tougher, he said. “It’s the gold standard of care for hospitals and health care,” Felix said.
