OTTAWA — There was some colorful language during Wednesday’s discussion whether to buy two new ambulances. Although there was no serious opposition to the plan from commissioners, commissioners asked county ambulance director Nick Robbins what color the new ambulances would be. The questions appeared to catch Robbins somewhat off guard, but he replied that the ambulance would be white or light-colored. One commissioner noted that at one time, the county received a brown ambulance. However, commissioners discussed buying two new ambulances but the county will wait a year before buying any. County administrator Lisa Johnson said that Ford has decided to stop making diesel-powered ambulance chassis. The county will wait to check reports on gasoline-powered ambulances for the time being, she said. The county’s experience with gasoline-powered ambulances hasn’t been good, she said.
