OTTAWA — In addition to some grass fires, rural firefighters battled two house fires before and after the weekend. Assistant Pomona Fire Chief Alan Radcliffe said Friday night’s house fire in the 2200 block of Alabama Terrace between Williamsburg and Pomona, caused extensive fire damage to a couple of rooms in the house and resulted in smoke and water damage to much of the remaining house. The cause of that fire remains under investigation, he said. Monday afternoon’s fire in the 4200 block of Reno Road near LeLoup didn’t do as much damage. Undersheriff Steve Lunger said that fire was caused by someone using a heat gun to peel paint off of the house, which caught the house on fire.
