KANSAS CITY, Kan. — Michael Welch, 34, Kansas City, Kan., has been sentenced to 17 years in federal prison as repeat offender for a firearms violation. According to U.S.. Attorney Barry Grissom, Welch has worked hard for those 17 years. Welch pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful possession of ammunition after a felony conviction. He was caught shoplifting ammunition from Cabela’s in Kansas City. But in the 15 years before that, he has been convicted of two separate counts possession with intent to distribute marijuana, grand theft auto, burglary, possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, aggravated battery and two counts of strong armed robbery. Grissom said that Welch hasn’t been charged but is accused of assaulting a U.S. Marshal while he was in custody.
