PAOLA–Parents and students voiced their concerns to Paola USD-368 Board of Education Monday night about potential budget cuts. According to the “Miami County Republic”, school district officials previously announced that they’re looking for ways to cut $1.2 million from the budget. Most of the concerns centered on potential cuts to programs and extracurricular activities, as well as the possibility of closing Hillsdale Elementary School. Parents suggested that the district look for ways to increase income such as collecting fees for sports and extracurricular activities. Others suggested that the district looks at other cuts, such as reducing salaries and benefits, cutting assistant coaches, and going paperless. The board members are scheduled to meet Monday morning for a work session at the Hillsdale Elementary School.
