GARNETT — The Anderson County “Cops for Tots” hopes to collar toys and goodies for every kid in Anderson County. Garnett Police Chief John Leinweber said Anderson County ECKAN and the Garnett Optimists are joining their Spirit of Christmas drive with Garnett police officers and Anderson County deputies’ Cops for Tots drive. The drive aims enough new toys or money to ensure that no child goes without a toy for Christmas, Leinweber said. Unlike past years, there is no income limit for help for families and their children, he said. “If a child needs a toy, he or she will get one regardless of the family’s income,” Leinweber said. In addition, the Spirit of Christmas Committee is working hard to provide every needy family a Christmas meal. Anderson County ECKAN says because of the economy, this year’s goal is a lot higher. Donations of new toys, money and other items may be at the Garnett City Hall, the Anderson County Sheriff’s office or ECKAN.
