LOUISBURG — Louisburg school board members recently received a grim forecast of state and federal budget cuts for special education recently. Louisburg is a member of an eight- district special education cooperative based in Paola. The Louisburg Journal reported that because of federal mandates, the co-op must offer special education services regardless of how much money it receives from the state and federal governments. Co-op director Mike Hughes told the board that the co-op could charge its members school districts more. Louisburg has 216 students of the more than 1,400 students enrolled in the cooperative.
