KANSAS CITY – KCP&L said that the first stage of the company’s Smartgrid project is under way in the Kansas City area. KCP&L began installing 14,000 new smart meters at homes and businesses. The utility said the new meters will give customers greater control over how and when they use electricity and give them information to better manage their electricity use and help them save money. KCP&L said Smartgrid will also allow the company to test new products and technologies and better understand customer use patterns and preferences. The utility said Smartgrid is the first step toward creating ae model for the electric utility of the future.
