WASHINGTON — Miami and Linn counties have been designated as part of a federal disaster area because of this summer’s drought. The U.S. Department of Agriculture has designated 28 counties in Missouri as natural disaster areas. The USDA says because the two counties from Kansas are next to Missouri counties in the primary area, they are included in the disaster declaration. Farmers and ranchers who suffered significant crop or livestock losses between May 1 and Sept. 30 because of drought could be eligible for natural disaster aid and emergency, low-interest loans. Check with local USDA Farm Service centers for more information.
