OTTAWA–The Ottawa Police Department, along with as many as 140 other police agencies across the state, will be participating in the Kansas Thanksgiving Traffic Enforcement Campaign, starting Monday through Sunday, November 28th. A grant from the Kansas Department of Transportation will enable this department to have more officers present on area roadways to aggressively enforce Kansas traffic laws. They will be looking especially for impaired drivers and for children, teens, and adults who are not properly restrained. According to KDOT, occupants in alcohol-related crashes are over 2 and 1/2 times more likely to be injured or killed. Those who do not buckle up are about 12 times likely to be killed and almost twice as likely to suffer injury as those who do buckle up.
