OTTAWA — Franklin County Sheriff Jeff Curry awarded the department’s Life Saver Award to deputies Mike Voigts and Richard Wilson during this morning’s county commission meeting. Curry said the two responded immediately when they received a call Nov. 3 of a man trying to commit suicide. They found the man hanging from a rope tied around a tree, Curry said. While Wilson held the man up, Voigts cut the man down and lowered him to the ground. They helped medical personnel to get to the scene who found a small pulse and resuscitated. Without the deputies’ efforts, the man would have died, Curry said.
