OTTAWA — Ransom Memorial Hospital’s intensive care unit will get a new location and a new makeover. Hospital CEO Larry Felix said the new ICI will be built in what was the old obstetrics ward. Eight new ICU rooms will be built. Unlike other hospitals, patients admitted to RMH’s ICU will stay in the ICU until they’re released, and won’t be transferred to other rooms, Felix said. Keeping patients in ICU is better for infection control and psychologically better for them and their families, he said. Construction will begin the week after Thanksgiving and should be completed in the middle of February. The project is part of $9 million expansion and renovation project at the hospital.
