LAWRENCE — A 21-year-old man from Nebraska was killed early this morning and three others injured in a two-vehicle accident on U.S. 59 north of Lawrence. The Douglas County Sheriff’s office said a pickup smashed into the back of the car which had four 21-year-old men from Nebraska. The four men in the car were taken to hospitals but one died at KU Medical Center, said Sgt. Stephen Lewis. The pickup driver fled the scene but was later arrested, he said. Zachary Harrison, 23, Cabot, Ark., was booked into the Douglas County jail on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter, three counts of aggravated battery, leaving the scene of an accident and failure to report an accident, according to the jail log. The highway was completely blocked most of the morning while investigators went over the scene. The Lawrence Journal-World reported the truck was stolen from a newspaper carrier at Kansas University.
