GARNETT — New fire stations in three communities in Anderson County mean a lot more than just a place to park fire trucks. Anderson County emergency management director Marvin Grimes told the Anderson County review that the fire stations in Greeley, Colony and Bush City will serve a larger role in keeping their communities safe. The stations will be able to serve as emergency shelters. He said Greeley recently opened its fire station and it was also designed to be a Red Cross shelter. Colony recently received a $297,000 federal grant for a new fire station and construction is under way. Volunteers will donate about $335,000 in equipment and labor for the project. The Colony fire station will include a meeting room and a safe room. The Bush City station replaced a building that was destroyed by a storm.
