GARNETT — Anderson County Republicans will have a candidates forum next week for successors to state Sen. Derek Schmidt. Because he was elected attorney general, he will resign from the senate. The forum will be Tuesday night at 6:30 at Garnett Inn and Suites, on the south east side of Garnett. Schmidt’s senatorial district is large and goes from Williamsburg to the Oklahoma border and includes most of Anderson County, southwestern Franklin County and part of Coffey County. At least five people are seeking the senatorial seat, including Republican activist Jim Robinson of Williamsburg. Republican Pparty committee members from the 15th Senatorial District will pick the next state senator Dec. 11 at the Yates Center Elementary School.
