OTTAWA — Ottawa Mayor Linda Reed will light up the Black Friday night when the downtown lights are switched on tonight at 6. Ottawa Area Chamber of Commerce’s Sherri Heaney says this year has a change — the lights will be switched on at the first of the ceremony. Because trolley rides also begin at the same time, turning on the lights will allow those riders to enjoy the lights. Tonight’s downtown lighting ceremony includes another change – the beginning of a scavenger hunt that goes through the week and to next weekend’s Victorian Christmas downtown, she said. The Central Heights High School choir will perform and lead the crowd in singing Christmas carols. Phil Messenger will read the poem “The Night Before Christmas.”
