GARNETT — The Garnett Parks and Recreation Department hopes to have floors, goals and other projects at the new Garnett Recreation Center completed soon. The plan is to have the center ready for Biddy Basketball games in January. The recreation center is the former Kansas National Guard armory. Plans call for a sports court, track, batting cages and exercise equipment in the center. City officials say it will take about $262,000 to convert the armory into a rec center. The city received a donation of $131,000 from the Goppert Foundation. The rest of the money is expected to come from other donations. City manager Joyce Martin told the Anderson County Review that no tax money will be used for the conversion.
