OSAWATOMIE — One home was destroyed and another was damaged by fires near Osawatomie over the Thanksgiving weekend. A fire destroyed a home occupied by Fred Wittenberg at 39345 Osawatomie Road Friday night, the Osawatomie Journal reported. Osawatomie volunteer firefighters were helped by Fontana and Paola firefighters. The loss was estimated at $80,000 to the structure, with damage to contents at $50,000. The attic of a house at 106 Brown Avenue in Osawatomie was damaged on Thanksgiving. The Journal reported the occupant Shawn Harper reported electrical problems and smelling smoke before the fire. Losses were estimated at $50,000 to the house and $20,000 to contents.
