OTTAWA — A pair of Topeka women were treated by a Franklin County EMS crew following a traffic accident on Old Highway 59 north of Ottawa Wednesday night. The Franklin County Sheriff’s office said Shondra Philips, 21, Topeka; was driving north on Old 59 when she tried to pass Robert Slifer, 66, Ottawa. However, because of another vehicle approaching head-on, she had to move back suddenly into the northbound lane, deputies said. She sideswiped the front of Slifer’s pickup, causing her to lose control and strike the bridge rail on both sides, deputies said. She and her passenger, Pearce Carter, 21, Topeka; were checked at the scene but refused treatment.
