OTTAWA — To the surprise of the Franklin County commissioners, they are the proud owners of a pet cemetery and a former animal shelter. County administrator Lisa Johnson said that Prairie Paws had planned to sell the former Bea Martin Peck Animal Shelter to the Franklin County Fair Board. However, in searching the title, Prairie Paws discovered that the site was a gift and when they left it, it was to go to the county, Johnson said. The county has no need of the site, she said. Instead, she suggested that the sale go through and the proceeds go directly to Prairie Paws to help pay off the new animal shelter on east K-68. Commissioners said they agreed with Johnson’s suggestion.
