OTTAWA – The Ottawa area has a good shot at attracting a couple of companies that could bring 300 jobs to the area, said Tom Weigand, Ottawa-Franklin County Economic Development and Ottawa Area Chamber of Commerce president. When he gave a report of economic development efforts to county commissioners Monday, Weigand declined to name the companies but said they would be desirable additions to the community. Ottawa has an edge because of the quality of the work force and because there are available buildings for a new business, he said. Topeka and Leavenworth are also vying for one of the companies, he said. Weigand said he had to do a DVD about the area as well as potential implications of moving to the area as part of the economic development package. He said he hopes to make an announcement within the next month or two.
