TOPEKA — Governor-elect Sam Brownback named five cabinet secretaries and one executive staff member Tuesday. Brownback said he’ll keep Deb Miller as the state transportation secretary. She was appointed as transportation secretary seven years ago by Democratic Gov. Kathleen Sebelius. Brownback will name state Sen. Karen Brownlee of Olathe as state labor secretary, state Rep. Pat George of Dodge City as commerce secretary, former state senator Nick Jordan of Overland Park as revenue secretary, and retired Cargill executive Dale Rodman, agriculture secretary. His most controversial appointment is likely to be that of Steve Anderson as budget director. Anderson has been involved with the Oklahoma chapter of the anti-government, anti-tax Americans For Prosperity bankrolled by the billionaire Koch family.
