OTTAWA — The Franklin County Sheriff’s office has received a $175,000 state grant to upgrade the county’s 911 system. Sheriff Jeff Curry saID the grant will allow the 911 system to make the changes needed for what is called Next Generation 911 – as he calls it “any time, any where” that would have virtually limitless possibilities. A Next Generation 911 system would be able to receive and send emergency information to other computer devices and systems, send and receive texts and could even receive cell-phone videos from witnesses as crimes occur, Curry said. The grant will upgrade the county’s system so that when the Next Generation 911 programs become available, the Franklin County system will be one of the most advanced in the state, he said.
