GARDNER — A second person has died as a result of a head-on crash near Gardner Wednesday night. The Johnson County Sheriff’s office said Milton Whaley, 63, Gardner; was thrown out of his pickup when he collided with a car on U.S. 56 near New Century Parkway. The department also identified Hannah Apperson, 13, Gardner; as the other person who was killed in the crash and who died at the scene. She was riding in a car driven by Lisa Apperson, 41. Lisa Apperson and two other passengers, 10-year-old Hailey Apperson and 7-year-old Cooper Apperson remain hospitalized. The cause of the crash remains under investigation, the sheriff’s department said.
