INDEPENDENCE — Independence state representative Jeff King will be the new state senator from the 15th District. King was elected by Republican committee members meeting at Yates Center Saturday. The two-term representative was vice-chairman of the House Taxation Committee. King was one of five candidates seeking to succeed Derek Schmidt, who was elected attorney general. As state senator, King will represent most of Anderson County, except Garnett and the southwestern corner of Franklin County.
