OTTAWA — Ottawa school superintendent Dean Katt said he’s concerned from reading newspaper interviews given by Governor-elect Sam Brownback’s new budget director Steve Anderson. Anderson has been involved with the Oklahoma chapter of the anti-government, anti-tax group Americans For Prosperity bankrolled by the billionaire Koch family. Almost immediately, Anderson got Katt’s attention with his call for school vouchers and using public money to pay for private schooling. According to some reports, Anderson has even supported giving public money to those parents who home-school, which would be tailor-made for abuse, Katt said. He‘s apparently proposed sharp cuts in funding for public education and advocated changes that would damage education, he said. Katt said he‘s also alarmed by a proposal that would make students pay all of the costs of attending public universities in the state.
