RANTOUL — Christmas is coming early for those folks in eastern Franklin County who had drive 40 to 60 miles extra for their daily commutes because of the Vermont Road bridge project. County public works director Jim Haag is Santa and he made his delivery at this morning’s Franklin County Commission meeting. The bridge will be open on Thursday, he said. The bridge will be closed temporarily in the spring to allow a permanent asphalt pavement to be laid on the deck, he said. Using state and federal funds, the county replaced the bridge over the Marais des Cygnes River near Rantoul.
