LOS ANGELES — JFC International is recalling all of its un-eviscerated frozen capelin because they may be contaminated with a botulism bacteria that could cause life-threatening illness or death. Consumers are warned not to use the fish product even if it does not look or smell spoiled. The recalled frozen capelin was distributed nationwide in retail stores and restaurants, including in Kansas. The recalled fish comes in a plastic-wrapped styrofoam tray that says “Frozen Capeline – Shishamo Imura.” The country of origin is Vietnam. Testing discovered that the fish was not properly eviscerated prior to processing. If you have any frozen capelin products, return them to whereever you bought them for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact the company at 1-800-633-1004, 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday-Friday. The recalls have the following descriptions/codes: Frozen Capelin (Shishamo “Imura”) in all lots, all sizes: UPC/bar code of: 4-954559-197055, 4-954559-197062, 4-954559-197079, 4-954559-197086, 4-954559-197093, 4-954559-197116, and 4-954559-197123.
