GARNETT — The city of Garnett has been running over water – running it out and running it in. City officials have been trying to deal with continuing flooding at the southeast corner of the downtown square. Because of some construction and other storm sewer work, the corner has flooded – as well as a beauty shop at the corner. A consulting engineer has been running computer models of the flooding and says another 30-inch storm drain line along the existing 30-inch line will eliminate the problem, city manager Joyce Martin said. A contractor for the city is finishing up a project to lay a new water line between Cedar Valley Reservoir and the city water plant. City crews helped the contractor with some cleanup work along the right of way so the contractor’s crews could get the last of the water line underground before winter hits, she said.
