OTTAWA — The Winter Adventures for children begins this morning with two dance classes at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 401 W. 13th. The dance and hip-hop classes, which are 10 and 11, will help get kids up and running after the weekend holiday, said the Franklin County Children’s Coalition Sara Caylor. The first dance class is for ages 3-7 will be 10-10:45 a.m. The second class is ages 8 and up and is 11-11:45 a.m. One new feature of this year’s winter break recreation program is ceramics classes this afternoon at 1 and 3 at the Carnegie Cultural Center, she said. The early class is for ages 4-7, and the 3 p.m. is for ages 8 and up. This is a two-part project that will continue on Thursday, she said. Class sizes are limited to 30 and registration is required. Register through the Ottawa Recreation Commission, 242-1939. Also this evening, roller-skating at The Rink sponsored by the Ottawa Optimist Club — 6-7 p.m. for ages 10 and under, and 7-9 p.m. skating for everyone. Cost is $2 per skater. It’s the only Winter Adventure event that has an admission charge, Caylor said. Also at 7 p.m., the Home Depot Build-it project at ORC, 517 E 3rd. Kids get to tackle a hands-on building project and also learn do-it-yourself skills and tool safety. Projects will be keepsakes to take home.
