OTTAWA — Although today’s farewell reception for county commissioners Don Hay and Sue Farrell were cancelled because Farrell couldn’t attend, Williamsburg City Council member and community activist Gene Hirt showed up at today’s meeting to offer words of praise for Farrell and Hay. Farrell has been willing to hear all opinions and Hay has been a stout defender of residents who have had disputes with the county or issues with county policies, Hirt said. Farrell and Hay were upset in the Republican primary by Colton Waymire and Steve Harris, who will become new county commissioners. The reception for Farrell and Hay has been rescheduled for Jan. 10.
