TOPEKA — The state is accepting early on-line applications for a program that helps poor Kansans pay heating bills. You can apply on-line for the Low Income Energy Assistance Program at www.ks-energy-assistance.com. The Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services said submitting an early on-line application will speed up processing and help eligible households receive benefits sooner. The SRS will accept paper applications from Jan. 13 to March 31. If anyone has received LIEAP or other SRS payments before, they will automatically receive an application packet in the mail by Jan. 13. LIEAP applications are also available at local SRS offices or by calling toll-free 1-800-432-0043. LIEAP helps disabled and elderly people, and families with children who meet income guidelines pay winter heating bills.
