GARNETT — Garnett will kick off the New Year and its 150th birthday party with a New York-style ball drop at midnight Friday in the downtown square. The ball drop will include a New York-style emcee – Dick Clark of Garnett. The lighted ball, made by Garnett city employees, will be dropped from the end of an aerial truck at the 150th anniversary Garnett arch on the west side of the square, said Susan Wettstein, Garnett Tourism Committee member. A photo will be taken of the crowd during the ball drop, she said. The ball drop is a year-long series of events to mark the city’s 150th anniversary, she said. The next event starts one minute after the ball drop. The city will host a free breakfast at the Garnett fire station to all those who show up for the New Year’s Eve ball drop.
