GARNETT — Despite temperatures in the low teens and a stiff breeze, a sizeable number of people bundled up as Garnett marked the start of the New Year and kicked off its 150th birthday party Friday night on the downtown square by dropping a Times-Square-style lighted ball. The event included a couple who got engaged. The ball-drop kicked off a year-long series of events as part of the city’s 150th anniversary.
