WALTON — A Garfield School third grade teacher was seriously injured in a head-on crash that killed two other people Sunday in Harvey County. 26-year-old Kathryn Gardner underwent surgery Sunday night at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. She was listed in critical condition this morning. Friends updated Gardner’s Facebook page which says that she came out of the surgery in good shape but faces another surgery today or Tuesday. Her Facebook page says she’ll be in the hospital’s intensive care unit after the second surgery. The Kansas Highway Patrol said that Rodney Stevens, 62, Shawnee; was driving west on U.S. 50 near Newton when his vehicle went across the center line and hit Gardner’s car head-on. Stevens and his passenger, Janet Stevens, 63, Shawnee; were killed.
