LAWRENCE — Kansas University has named Kansas native and KU graduate Sheahon Zenger as KU’s next director of athletics. Zenger is currently athletics director at Illinois State University, where the school had several multi-sport successes and set academic records during his tenure. He will be officially introduced at a news conference this afternoon at 1:30 in Lawrence. He will start at KU Feb. 1. Ku chancellor Bernadette Gray-Little said Zenger is the best choice to lead Kansas athletics into the future. She says he will work to ensure that every Jayhawk team succeeds on the field and in the classroom, and that the sports programs will operate with the utmost integrity. Zenger helped coached football at Drake, Kansas State, South Florida and Wyoming. Before becoming athletic director at Illinois State, Zenger held a number of top fundraising positions at Kansas State University.
