TOPEKA — Two nurses and a pharmacist from Manhattan have been charged in federal court at Topeka with conspiracy to distribute oxycodone. U.S Attorney Barry Grissom said registered nurse Christine Swanson has been charged with one count of conspiracy to distribute oxycodone and Oxycontin, and one count of attempting to destroy evidence during the execution of a search warrant. Pharmacist Kathleen Surowski is charged with unlawful possessing more than 600 pills containing hydrocodone, at least 800 pills containing oxycodone and at least 540 pills containing amphetamine; one count of conspiracy to distribute oxycodone and Oxycontin, and one count of submitting false claims to CVS Caremark and Medicaid for prescriptions for oxycodone and Oxycontin. In a related case, licensed practical nurse Denise Carlson of Riley was charged with one count of conspiracy to distribute oxycodone and Oxycontin.
