NEW YORK — Paola native and Ottawa University graduate Dan Lybarger recently interviewed one of his childhood heroes. Lybarger did a story on Mad Magazine’s Al Jaffee for the on-line Huffington Post. Kids who misspent their youth reading Mad know the legendary cartoonist’s “Mad Inventions,” “Snappy Comebacks,” and fold-ins on the back of each issue of the magazine. Lybarger told the Osawatomie Journal that reading Jaffee got him into trouble with his fifth-grade teacher. Lybarger said he’s been grateful ever since. His love for Mad spurred his love of reading, he said. Lybarger is a frequent contributor to the on-line news site and is a freelance writer based in Kansas City.
