LANCASTER — A 58-year-old Atchison County farmer was killed Sunday when a large hay bale fell on him. KNZA-FM Radio reports that Rick Scholz of Lancaster apparently had got off a tractor and was trying to put the bale into a cattle feeder. Atchison County Sheriff John Calhoon told the radio station that it appears that the hydraulic system on the tractor failed, dropping the bale on Scholz.
