TOPEKA — An Ottawa attorney has been named to a blue-ribbon commission that is reviewing of state court operations and structure. Sam Sheldon of Ottawa is also owner of Haley Title Company. The commission’s report will help the Kansas Supreme Court in making improvements in the way the courts serve Kansans, said Chief Justice Lawton Nuss. The commission’s recommendations will have the potential to offer the most dramatic changes to the judicial branch since court unification in the 1970s, he said. The blue ribbon commission will consider such issues as the number of courts in the state, the services to be provided in each court location, technology and staffing, he said.
