GARNETT–A Westphalia woman is challenging an incumbent for a seat in the School Board of Education. Gaylene Comfort, a 4-H leader, has filed for the District 1 seat of the USD 365 School Board of Education. That position is currently held by Carl Nichols, also from Westphalia. With Comfort’s filing, it’s the only contested race in the Garnett District. Candidates have until noon Tuesday to file. In the Garnett City Commission, three people are competing for the same spot. Chris Maynard is fighting to keep his spot against Dan Morgan and Art Gilmore. Morgan works in the Agri-Business Industry and Gilmore is a local landlord. City Commission candidates also have until noon Tuesday to file for the race.
