OTTAWA — The county will solicit bids for a new juvenile detention center at Second and Beech. The county commission, acting as the Public Building Commission, voted this morning to proceed with the project. County administrator Lisa Johnson said formal presentations will be sent out later this week, with bids to be received by March 1, with the winning bidder to be selected March 9. The county is buying the old Neosho County Community College site in April to be used for the new detention center when the college moves to its new campus on K-68 in eastern Ottawa. The entire project is estimated at $3.9 million but architect Dan Rowe, Treanor Architects, said he expects bids to be lower.
