GARNETT — Despite fluctuations, Garnett local sales tax collections posted an increase for 2010. The Anderson County Review reports that sales tax collections for the city of Garnett were up nearly 13 percent at the end of the year. The city received more than $115,000 in sales taxes for the fiscal year, which started July 1. However, the monthly sales tax figures show sharp swings in collections. Sales tax collections in small communities are strongly affected by a few sectors, especially automotive and furniture sales. Anderson County sales tax figures mirrored Garnett’s numbers. County sales tax collections were up about 8 percent for the year.
