TOPEKA – A Topeka man has been sentenced to life in federal prison without parole for federal drug charges. U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom says 27-year-old Alfonso Rubio-Ayala was one of the leaders of a drug-trafficking ring that smuggled methamphetamine from Mexico and sold it in Great Bend, Topeka and Kansas City, Kan. He pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine. Drug Enforcement Administration agents seized more than $690,000 in cash, 10 pounds of methamphetamine, firearms and vehicles at drug houses in Topeka, Kansas City and Great Bend, Grissom said. The other leader in the ring, Adan Molina, will be sentenced today. The Osage County Sheriff’s office was involved in the investigation.
