GARNETT — Anderson County emergency officials issued a Code Red warning to county residents this evening. Officials said all county roads and state highways were heavily snow-packed and were rapidly drifting shut because of heavy snows driven by high winds. They urged residents to stay home tonight. They said they were preparing emergency shelters for those who couldn’t make it home or who needed a warm place to stay overnight. There were several brief power outages in the city of Garnett this afternoon and evening. Code Red is the county’s Reverse 911 system that is used to alert residents to safety and weather problems.
