RICHTER — Williamsburg and Pomona firefighters battled snow drifts, Arctic temperatures and screaming north winds while they struggled to get to where they could fight a house fire in the 1200 block of K-68 near Richter. Karen Montgomery, 50, Pomona, reported the fire in the kitchen. The occupants were using a heater to thaw frozen water pipes and a fire resulted, said Pomona assistant fire chief Alan Radcliffe. Although there was no immediate estimate of damage, Radcliffe said most of the fire damage was confined to one room and the contents in the room, with smoke damage throughout the rest of the house.
