OLATHE — An 18-year-old Ottawa woman was taken to Olathe Medical Center Tuesday after the Jeep she was riding in was hit by a semi-truck on I-35 in Olathe. The Kansas Highway Patrol said John Kirkpatrick, 20, Ottawa, was driving north on I-35 near the Lone Elm Road interchange when a semi-truck pulled around him to pass. Troopers said the truck side-swiped Kirkpatrick’s Jeep causing it to spin out of control. His passenger, Kara Kirkpatrick, was taken to the hospital for treatment of her injuries. He wasn’t injured. The semi-truck didn’t pull over and left the scene.
