FONTANA — Osawatomie and area firefighters found themselves battling the extreme cold and a fire in Fontana last week. The family in the house fled the fire without injury. Osawatomie Fire Chief Duwayne Tewes told the Osawatomie Graphic that firefighters had to leave nozzles and hoses trickling to prevent the water flowing through them from freezing and had to keep from slipping on slick spots. Units from Osawatomie, Fontana, Paola, Linn County Rural and La Cygne responded. There was no immediate cause of the fire.
