OTTAWA — The Ottawa Police Foundation will buy a computerized policy management system for the Ottawa Police Department. The foundation will pay for the system in part from a grant from the Ottawa Wal-Mart Distribution Center and will formally announce the purchase at this morning’s Ottawa City Commission meeting at 9:30. The software organizes and distributes policies and procedures on-line without paper, Police Chief Dennis Butler said. The system will also allow documents to be quickly distributed throughout the department, send e-messages and handle electronic signatures, he said. The system will speed up police procedures and improve employee accountability, Butler said. Adopting the system is a major step in help the police department receive national accreditation, he said.
